Legendary musician Thomas Tafirenyika Mapfumo will be releasing two singles on CD later this month as a preparation to his much awaited album “Danger Zone” to be released in April. The baby CD titled Music contains two singles namely ‘Music’ and a remix of the yesteryear classic ‘Shabeen’ which features his daughter Chiedza on backing vocals.
The title track, ‘Music’ talks about different genres of music and it goes with the chorus, “I need music, reggae music, African music, Chimurenga music, rock ‘n’ roll music, calypso music, I want some music, any kind of music.’’
The sweet backing vocals by his daughter Chiedza, niece Cleopatra and Stormy an Afro-American lady blends well with Mukanya’s deep husky voice.
‘Shabeen’ is a remix featuring Natalia Rollins aka ‘Moxie’ a white American young lady singing the original lyrics in English, with Mukanya in Shona.
Chimurenga Music Company Manager Austin Sibanda said Mukanya has shown his fans both young and old that they can get up and dance to this remix.
Both songs have some amplified club mix beats and will definitely be hits in both local and international clubs. The white lady ‘Moxie’ will be part of the Blacks Unlimited entourage touring South Africa on the 25 April at Chery’s Kitchen in Cape Town, 26 April Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg & 27 April Messina show grounds.
The singles were recorded at bCd studios in Eugene Oregen, United States of America. The long awaited album Danger Zone is Mukanya’s new recording since 2010 when the musician released the album Exile. The Chimurenga music icon last year released a collection of his Golden Classics hits that dominated Mukanya’s early years in music.
